Gwen Hayes: Friday in the Fort!

Today in The Fort we have Gwen Hayes, author of FALLING UNDER.

FALLING UNDER is one of those books that's been on my TBR for a long, long time, and will be part of my reward for turning in Hourglass Two! One of the most intriguing things about it (besides that cover HELLO) is that the reviewers and fans are keeping the "secret" that's in the book. Every review I read, every tweet I see, says "I won't give away the secret..."

WHAT IS THE SECRET? WHAT KIND OF MOJO DID GWEN WORK ON HER READERS TO MAKE THEM KEEP IT?

So that's why it's part of my reward. Also, Gwen is HILARIOUS on Twitter, and I truly fear if we're ever in the same city that a world takeover would be imminent. Or at least some jail time.

ABOUT FALLING UNDER:

Theia Alderson has always led a sheltered life in the small California town of Serendipity Falls. But when a devastatingly handsome boy appears in the halls of her school, Theia knows she's seen Haden before- not around town, but in her dreams.

As the Haden of both the night and the day beckons her closer one moment and pushes her away the next, the only thing Theia knows for sure is that the incredible pull she feels towards him is stronger than her fear.

And when she discovers what Haden truly is, Theia's not sure if she wants to resist him, even if the cost is her soul.

ABOUT GWEN:

Gwen Hayes lives in the Pacific Northwest with her real life hero and a pack of wild beasts (two of whom she gave birth to). She is a reader, writer, and lover of pop culture (which, other than yogurt, is the only culture she gets).

From Gwen: "Thanks for inviting me to the Fort! I brought my unicorn sleeping bag and a tote full of books to read with a flashlight. I'll give one away though, a copy of Falling Under, to a random commenter."

Favorite game?
I like croquet.  Or vampire baseball.

Sun worshipper, spray tan or SPF 50?
SPF 50 while I worship the sun.

Beach or lake? Boat or shore?
Beach and shore...unless it's a cruise ship. I like cruise ships.

Air conditioning or open windows?
Open windows! Unless there is an escaped convict from the nearby asylum out and about.

Raft or inner tube?
Raft please. I like all my bits out of the water.

High dive, low dive or cannonball?
Gingerly wading in is not on this list. Why is that?

Favorite summer drink?
I like a tall, icy diet Rockstar.

Ghost story or not? Do you remember any favorites from the past?
Okay...the one where you do the Bloody Mary chant in a dark room in front of a mirror has made it impossible for me to enter a dark room with a mirror in it. Still. I FREAK out if I see my reflection in the dark. I'm freaking out now. Somebody hold me.

Truth, or Dare?
Truth. No, dare. No truth.

What singer/musician/band is a must have for The Fort soundtrack?
The song Kermit does on his ukulele is fun campfire song. Rainbow Connection?

What movie would you bring to watch?
Sixteen Candles

Who's the ideal mascot (usually cute boys, or one time, a unicorn, or that other time, Sue Sylvester) for The Fort and why?
Kermit and his ukulele. Why? Just watch. He's adorable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSFLZ-MzIhM

Marshmallows, lightly toasted or burned to a crisp?
Lightly toasted. With chocolate and graham crackers.

Awake all night or first one to sleep?
I do not trust anyone here enough to be the first one asleep.

If awake all night, practical joke or no?
I am fond of the old shaving-cream-on-the-hand-tickle-the-nose joke.

If you could have any YA author visit The Fort and tell stories, who would it be and what story would you ask them to tell?
Laura Ingalls Wilder. She has some rad stories, she'd know how to handle any scary woods situations we find ourselves in, plus she'd be a ghost. Win!

Thank you muchly for visiting The Fort!!

As Gwen shared above, she's giving away a copy of FALLING UNDER to a commenter (US OR CANADA ONLY)! I'll announce the winner next week!

  1. I am soooo glad I'm not the only one that freaks out when they see their reflection in the dark. I feel less like a loner now. Once the weather gets nicer my friends and I are going camping for my birthday. I tend to fall asleep early so to save myself from possible embarrassment, I plan to pack a bunch of rockstar and monster to stay awake! x]

  4. Croquet? I use to play that when I was younger. I don't think I ever won, not even once.

    Happy Easter :-)

  5. I've been stalking this book for a long time, too. Secrets are fun things for nosey people *snort* And, I HAD to comment because of Kermit! I watched as much Muppets as my parents would tolerate because I loved Kermie.

My goal is to have the book, and a Kermit stuffy to hold it!

  25. Haha I couldn't decide between truth or dare either! But I went with dare because it's just doing something once whereas if you tell someone something, that stays with the person forever! And my friends are considerate (sort of) about the dares >.< Thanks for the giveaway!!

  26. After you said Bloody Mary, I had to turn around and make sure she wasn't behind me, haha. Kermit is honestly one of the cutest and I went to Muppets world when I was in Disneyland a while ago, it was definitely worth it! I need to use SPF 80 when i worship the sun, haha, my Irish skin just loves to burn. This book sounds very intriguing and I have a funny feeling I am going to like finding out just who Haden really is, though I do have some guesses already!

  27. I am in love with your writing and your covers- lol, I know that sounds odd :P As a fellow writer I know covers are EVERYTHING- if it isnt enticing, no one will pick it up. No one will say, "hmm, this looks good..." :) Yes, I am hoping to win in your give away, but also just dropping by to say hi and good luck in any future writing! :]

  31. HAHAHAHA. The interview is hilarious! But seriously, I would love to be involved in a game of vampire baseball. But I would lose, epically. Especially considering the fact that I'm not a vampire. :/

Anyways, thanks for the giveaway! I've been DYING to read this book--and find out this mysterious secret.
