About Andrea: I currently live in Minneapolis, Minnesota but I spent my childhood in the Northwoods of northern Wisconsin. I have a Ph.D. in early modern history and I’m a professor at Macalester College. My work as a historian played a key role in the world-building involved in Nightshade.
About Nightshade: Nightshade is the story of Calla Tor - on her upcoming eighteenth birthday she’ll become the alpha female of the next generation of Guardian wolves who have fought for centuries on the front lines of the Witches’ War. But her predestined path veers off course when she saves the life of a wayward hiker, a human boy. Startled by her own violation of the law she’s sworn to uphold, she hopes the stranger will soon be a distant memory. When the boy turns out to be a new student in her school, Calla’s random act of kindness spirals into a whirlwind of deceit, hidden histories, and forbidden love.
Favorite comfort food?
Spaghetti and Meat Balls
Flannel, fleece or Snuggie?
If Snuggie, which color?
No Snuggies! They scare me!
Fluffy socks or slippers?
Favorite fall drink?
Coffee. Black and strong as possible.
Ghost story or Truth or Dare?
Truth? Or dare?
Truth – I get grossed out really easily.
What singer/musician/band is a must have for The Fort soundtrack?
Florence and the Machine
What movie would you bring to watch?
Who's the ideal male mascot for The Fort and why?
Sam and Dean from Supernatural. They’d get all the mythology I’m writing about, plus they’d be awesome company.
Marshmallows, lightly toasted or burned to a crisp?
Lightly toasted and with chocolate, but no graham crackers
Awake all night or first one to sleep?
First one to sleep. I need about 10 hours to feel like a human being.
If awake all night, practical joke or no?
If I’m awake all night it’s usually because I have a story I can’t get out of my head, so I’m up and clacking away on my computer.
If you could have any YA author visit the fort and tell stories, who would it be and what story would you ask him/her to tell?
Brenna Yovanoff’s debut, The Replacement, came out in September 2010. It’s a gorgeous and frightening book that I loved! I’d like to sit around a campfire with Brenna and tell ghost stories.
