Brains...I Needz Them

Heart Status: Aiight

On iTunes: Nothing, I can't get it to open

1. I'm reduced to a list for my post today. I haz no brainssss cellzzzzzzzzz.

2. Revising is a whole different turkey from simply writing. It requires a continual, uninterrupted thought process.

3. As I'm typing this, the Doodlebug is literally one inch away from my face, giving me a blow by blow of everything the Spider Monkey is doing (which includes hitting me on the head with a broom handle). I haven't had a continual, uninterrupted thought process in eight years.

4. I kind of don't have anything good to offer today. So I'm going to point you to two other blog posts.

5. If you're a writer-type, you must read this post by Suzette Saxton about the top ten mistakes writers make. It will make your to-do list longer, but it will make your work better.

6. Whether you're a writer-type or not, you must read this post by Maggie Stiefvater about confidence versus ego. And if you haven't read Lament, run to the bookstore to buy it, as well as the sequel, Ballad, when it comes out this fall.

7. I'm reading an ARC (advanced reader copy) of Shiver by Miss Maggie right now. It comes out in August. It is ALL KINDS of excellent. Although I always pick the television pilots that are cancelled as my favorites, I really can pick books. This gal is going places.

8. Things aren't getting any better for Rob Pattinson. Apparently, he was chased into the street by screaming teens and hit by a cab.

9. Maybe he needs to hire the Zombie Kitteh (pictured above) for his security detail.

10. ALSO, I am approaching my 50th post! I'd love to have half as many followers as I do posts, so I'm going to do a giveaway! If you are a follower by the time I have my 50th post, and you comment on that post (even with a smiley face) I will put your name in the pot to win a $15 gift card from Borders. I'll also give away a couple of ARC's. I'll come up with a list and let the winner pick!

Shameless, aren't I?

  1. I started reading your blog after reading April's (I know her from Grand Rapids) and you 2 crack me up. I also like your book suggestions so I'm going to try a couple out.

    Maybe I'll win an ARC.

  2. Awww, thanks! Yes, definitely try Maggie Stiefvater. Did you read Twilight? You might also like The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan. I mostly read Young Adult, but it doesn't feel like YA.

  3. I've been following you for years...but had to work to find you here;) Have you thought about putting one of those followers links on your sidebar? It makes it much easier for people to follow you. All they have to do is click on the little button and then they get all the updates. Plus it tells you how many subscribers you have. I didn't see one on your page. Love reading you! Ms. Glasgow Smith

  4. Ellen! I totally took it off when I changed my background. Thanks for the catch!

I'd love to see you. I can still hear your laugh perfectly, even almost 20 years later!

  5. Hi, Myra.

Yes, you are shameless. (not!) LOL!
You have a lot of the same friends that I do and that's how I found you.
I read Suzette Saxton's blog today, and the article that Pat Holt wrote about "The Top Ten Mistakes That Writers Make" was brilliant! Everybody should read it!
    Nice to meet you, Myra.

    Cynde's Got The Write Stuff

  6. I follow your blog...you follow mine???

    Hope all is great!

  7. Sheesh. People need to leave poor Rob alone, already.

I fall back on lists often. It's a great way to string random thoughts together. =D

  8. Okay, so I watched Twilight yesterday. Finally. I liked the first half, but the end with all the vampire stuff and her getting really hurt kind of skeeved me. Basically it was like reliving high school - being attracted to all the wrong guys, trying to stay pure despite the animal instincts raging inside me (and them), feeling as if everything was life or death. So I guess that's why it's such a hit: it's definitely striking a chord.

I have to admit, though, that my obsession with Hugh is such that in the scenes with all the big trees... I kept waiting for Logan to show up and shout "Timber" or for him to unsheath his claws and start ripping vampires to shreds.

I am curious about some of the things that were hinted at but not developed in the movie... like the Indians being werewolves, I assume?

Overall: very entertaining. Rob is definitely hugely sexy in a wierd way. But I had not so nice dreams last night!

  9. Oh, and uh... you can write a first draft with interruptions? Wow.

The fact that you are doing this at all with a doodlebug and a spider monkey in the house makes you my hero.

I have a Jedi, but he spends a lot of time building Legos quietly. In his room.

  10. I'm all for shameless plugs so I signed up as a follower. Maybe I'll win something, too :)

  11. Hello, all you new followers! Now the pressure is on for me to have something good to say!

    Cupcakes are good.

  12. Chocolate with chocolate frosting? And Chocolate sprinkles?

    That was awesome.

  14. Hello, all you new followers! Now the pressure is on for me to have something good to say!
